Augsburg 6, UW-Superior 1
SUPERIOR, Wis. (November 3, 2017) – The Yellowjackets faced off against No. 12 Augsburg in their home opener Friday, falling to the Auggies 6-1.
The first period allowed almost nine minutes of play until the first whistle blew. The two teams traded shots as the 'Jackets produced three to the Auggies nine in the first 10 minutes. The Auggies struck first, scoring at the 11:24 mark. Superior found the net 21 seconds later on a puck sent from
Connor Hamonic (Winnipeg, Man./Vincent Massey Collegiate) to
Tanner Skaja (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) off the faceoff for Skaja's first goal of the season to tie at 1-1.
The Auggies would add one more goal in the first period to hold the lead 2-1.
The second period showed some tough defense from the Yellowjackets. Augsburg would score in the final minute of the second to increase their lead 3-1.
The final period saw three goals given up by Superior, as the Auggies went on to win 6-1.
The Yellowjackets were able to get 22 shots on net in the game, getting 12 in the final period of play; the Auggies tallied 32 on the night. Superior did have the upper hand in faceoffs, getting 27 to Augsburg's 23.
Kyle Miller (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) spent all 60 minutes between the pipes, stopping 26 pucks.
The 'Jackets will have a week to get back into form, as they take on Gustavus Adolphus next Friday, Nov. 10 in St. Peter, Minn. at 8 p.m.
