Yellowjacket reserves lead the way to claim share of UMAC regular season title

The University of Wisconsin Superior claimed a share of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference regular season title for its second-straight season in the league, as the Yellowjackets' reserves led the way in a 75-53 victory over Crown College on Friday night in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.

UW-Superior (20-4, 15-0 UMAC) will battle the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday afternoon in search of claiming an outright championship and undefeated season for the second consecutive year since joining the league before last season. If the Yellowjackets win Saturday in Morris, they will also claim home court advantage for the duration of the UMAC Postseason Tournament whereas a victory for the Cougars will result in a coin flip determining the top seed in the tournament.

Freshmen Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) and Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter H.S.) had 15 and 11 points off the bench, respectively, leading UW-Superior over Crown (1-23, 0-15 UMAC). The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early lead, ahead 22-11 after the first quarter and 40-19 at halftime. Junior guard Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) had the most minutes among starters with 11 points in 18 minutes before giving way to the reserves. UW-Superior got 53 points off its bench, matching the Storm's full-team effort on the night. The Yellowjackets shot 41.5 percent for the game, hitting 5-of-11 three-pointers in the game. Mariah Douville had 14 points off the bench to lead Crown, which shot just 26.9 percent for the game but did have six three-pointers as a team in trying to make a second-half push.
