The University of Wisconsin Superior opened up its non-conference road series at Northland College with a lop-sided victory as the Yellowjackets rolled to a 5-1 victory over the LumberJills in Ashland, Wisconsin on Friday evening.
Senior forward
Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.) scored twice, good for her sixth of the season; senior
Amanda Coey (Brandon, Man./Crocus Plains H.S.) added a goal and an assist; and sophomore forward
Mandy Tomlinson (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca H.S.) had three assists on the day as UW-Superior (8-13-0) rolled in the opener of the two-game set against Northland (4-17-0). The Yellowjackets scored twice in the first period, once in the second, and twice again in the third period, making short work of the LumberJills.
Freshman
Hannah Currin (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy H.S.) got the scoring started for UWS just 7:02 into the first period, assisted by junior
Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River H.S.) and freshman
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.). Adair added to that lead just under four minutes later with her first of the night at 11:11 of the first assisted by junior
Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover H.S.) and freshman
Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island H.S.). Northland cut into the lead when Allyson Reilly scored on the powerplay with an assist from Samantha Scott at 4:54 of the second. Adair had the answer to put the Yellowjackets back up by two at 11:44 of the second, assisted by Goodin and Tomlinson.
Coey put UWS up by three at 4:38 in the third, with Tomlinson adding her second assist. The duo would add helpers on the final goal of the day, scored by junior
Jessica Marsalla (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing H.S.) at 14:29 of the period. Senior
Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 21 saves for the Yellowjackets in securing the victory. Chloe Marshall stopped 48 pucks for Northland. The LumberJills finished 1-for-3 on the powerplay while UW-Superior finished 0-for-3 with the skater advantage
