The University of Wisconsin-Superior could not provide the offense for senior right-hander
Grant Schneider (Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial H.S.) as the Yellowjackets fell 4-1 in the series opener against the University of Chicago on Saturday night at Curtis Granderson Field in Chicago, Illinois.
Schneider (1-1) worked 6.0 innings, allowing just three earned runs on five hits while striking out three on his night. UW-Superior (2-10) scored an opening-inning run as junior infielder
Nick McNosky (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle H.S.) led off the game with a double, eventually scoring on an RBI triple by senior infielder
Chad Patko (Stone Lake, Wis./Hayward H.S.). The Yellowjackets would get a runner to second in three different innings, but could not scratch across another run against UChicago (9-4).
The Maroons tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single by Ian Bohn in the third inning. An error on the UWS infield helped UChicago get the sixth inning started, followed by a single, a sacrifice fly to score the go-ahead run and a two-run homer by left fielder Josh Parks. Brenton Villasenor (4-0) worked 8.0 complete, allowing just one earned on seven hits while striking out three. He gave way to Arno Curtis, who struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning for his first save of the season.
