Last Week's Highlights
- The University of Wisconsin Superior honored each of its athletics award winners from spring 2016 until winter 2016-17 while also handing out its
major awards for the year on Tuesday evening.
Baseball (11-23, 5-7 UMAC)
- Yellowjacket baseball took on the University of Wisconsin Stout on Wednesday at Wheratt Field beginning a string of eight games within five days. UW-Superior takes on St. Olaf College in a rescheduled non-conference doubleheader on Thursday. The Oles are 11-22 on the season after taking on Carleton College on Wednesday afternoon. The Yellowjackets will wrap up Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play this weekend hosting a pair of league doubleheaders at Whereatt Field. North Central University arrives on campus Saturday just 2-10 against UMAC foes, while the University of Northwestern comes in Sunday for a rescheduled twinbill. The Eagles are 4-7 and battling with UWS and Northland College for the final playoff spot heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
Softball (16-15, 97-7 UMAC)
- The Yellowjackets are in action at the UMAC Tournament beginning Thursday morning. The fourth-seeded UW-Superior opens the playoffs against fifth seed Bethany Lutheran College, with the winner advancing to take on top-seeded The College of St. Scholastica at 2 p.m. The loser will not be eliminated from the double elimination format but will have a must-win game at 4 p.m. against the loser of the 12 p.m. opening round game between second-seed Crown College and the third-seed University of Northwestern. The Yellowjackets split their conference doubleheader with Bethany Lutheran on Saturday, April 22, winning game two 4-0 after a Viking walk-off victory in the seventh inning of game one. The tournament continues into Friday and Saturday.
Men's and Women's Track & Field
- UW-Superior will be competing at the two-day UMAC Championships meet on Friday and Saturday. The Yellowjacket men's team is the defending champion in the event, and UWS returns the UMAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Meet from earlier this season in senior
Alex Fathie (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall H.S.) and sophomore
C.J. Pillath (Coleman, Wis./Coleman H.S.). The men currently have 28 athletes on the UMAC top-five performers for 2017. On the women's side, the Yellowjackets boast UMAC Indoor Field Athlete of the Meet
Svenja Ruehl (Kirchuers, Germany/Gymnasium Philippinum Marburg). UW-Superior has 18 women in the top-five performances for the UMAC this spring season.
