SUPERIOR, Wis. (September 20, 2017) – Superior squared off against the Hamline University Pipers for their second game in two days, Wednesday, and scored one goal to the Pipers two, in the loss. Â
The Pipers scored first in the 4th minute, on a long-ball turnover from the Yellowjackets that led Adam King to the right side of the box. The Yellowjackets found a few chances in the first, including back-to-back free kicks, but were unable to connect. The Pipers held their 1-0 advantage through the first half.
The second half was rough and tumble, producing two yellow cards and 10 fouls on either side. The Pipers found the dagger in the 83rd minute as Trevor Tallaksen found goal on a header after a free kick. The Yellowjackets scored in the 89th minute after
James Bruce (Gladstone, Mich./Gladstone) crossed the ball deep in the box to find Gunnar O'Neil-Sengbush on the right side for the tap in for the score. The goal wasn't enough for the 'Jackets as they had only 48 seconds remaining.
It was one of the most defensive games Superior has played in this season as they Pipers clamped down after scoring their initial goal. The 'Jackets managed 15 shots, including three from
Mualigbe Keita (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Prairie Seeds Academy) and two from
Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park). Dalton Von Kaenel in goal and got the start and saved three shots on the night.
Superior will take on Martin Luther this Saturday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. at home in the NBC Sports Complex.
