SUPERIOR (September 3, 2017) – The Yellowjacket men's soccer team put on a show at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Sunday in their second game of the season. Superior bounced back and scored seven goals, including a hat trick from
Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy), and two goals from
Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold).
Superior started strong, scoring in the ninth minute, after Watson scored on a lead pass from
James Bruce (Gladstone, Mich./Gladstone). Three minutes later, Bruce had his chance to score on a through ball from
Fernando Bicalho (Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil/Kickapoo (Mo.)). These would be the only two scored in the half, but the Yellowjackets weren't done.
Watson found the net again, after Kearns found an opening in the Cobber's defense. It was then Kearns' turn when
Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy) booted the ball from Superior's goal, and then
Mason Tynsky (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) one-touched the ball to Kearns for the score in the 73rd minute. He would go on to score two more by the 80th minute, including a penalty kick. Blake Doyea but the game away for the Yellowjackets on an assist from Watson in the 87
th minute.
The Yellowjacket offense was in full force today, but it was the defense that created havoc for the Cobbers, who only managed five total shots in the game.
The men's team will head to Arden Hills Minn. on Wednesday Sept. 8 for a 4 p.m. game against Bethel University.
