HANCOCK, Mich. (January 13, 2018) – Superior won their fourth game of the season vs Finlandia this season, sweeping the Lions on Saturday. Six different 'Jackets found the twine in the win.
It took almost all of the first period for Superior to find their first goal of the game. Jenna Curtis (Siren, Wis./Webster) scored at 19:00, making the play unassisted. The Yellowjackets soon found themselves on their only power play of the contest, this lead a goal from Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) at 19:28, assisted by Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) and Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover). The 'Jackets led 2-0 after one.
It quickly became a 3-0 lead when Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) scored a 2:32, getting assists from Martinson and Goodin once again. It took about eight minutes to see another Yellowjacket score as Celina Clark (Waterdown, Ont./St. Mary) hit the back of the net on assists Kaylee Wood (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park) and Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island). 'Jackets contained a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.
The 'Jackets weren't done, it turned out to be the Goodin and Martinson show in the final period of play, Goodin would score at 4:43 assisted by Martinson, while Martinson scored 13:55 on an assist from Goodin. Superior made their long trek home with their second win of the weekend.
The Yellowjackets excelled in every facet of the game, winning faceoffs 39-20, outshot the Lions 47-16, but spent more time in the penalty box, 7-2.
Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) had a light day between the pipes, making 16 saves.
Superior will face Gustavus Adolphus for the second time this season, Tuesday Jan. 16 in St. Peter, Minn.
