Superior takes the tie with Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (January 20, 2018) – The Yellowjackets were in good position heading into the third period with the Blugolds, up 2-1, but Eau Claire got on the board at 15:53, forcing overtime. Neither team could find the twine thereafter, settling in a tie.

Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) would get her first goal of the season to open up the game for Superior. The Blugolds would set up a power play for the Yellowjackets at 2:07 of the first, which game Cragg the opening at 3:03 on an assist from Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) to go up 1-0. Two 'Jackets would find the penalty box in the first, but the kill unit succeeded, holding a lead after one period.

The Yellowjackets would continue to play well into the second; the Blugolds got themselves in the box once again, and Celina Clark (Waterdown, Ont./St. Mary) scored her third goal of the season at the 7:13 mark, getting an assist from Jenna Curtis (Siren, Wis./Webster).

The game continued on the track from the night before, as six penalites were give out in the second, three on each side. A power-play opportunity for Eau Claire sprang up late in the period; the Blugolds capitalized and cut the Superior down to 2-1 after two periods.

The third saw three penalties on the Yellowjackets, but the kill played well once again. The late goal from the Blugolds forced overtime at 2-2.

Superior would put up the only two shots of the overtime period, but to no avail.

The Yellowjackets were outshot once again, 32-15, and were only one scrum down in the faceoff battle, 31-30. Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) defended a 32 shots, and saved 30 pucks.

Superior will continue their WIAC back-to-backs next weekend, play River Falls on the road Friday, and then returning home for an afternoon contest with the Falcons in Wessman Arena.
