UW-River Falls 7, UW-Superior 5
RIVER FALLS, Wis. (January 26, 2018) – In their highest scoring game of the season, the Yellowjackets scored five total goals, but it wasn't enough as they fell to the UW-River Falls Falcons. Saige Patrick (Steinbach, Man./St. Mary's Academy) had two goals on the night.
 The Falcons came out firing in the first period, jumping out to the 1-0 lead to open the period as they scored the even-strength goal at 4:38. The scoreboard soon began to light up for River Falls, as they scored two back-to-back goals, the first on a power play, and then even strength, ahead 3-0 midway through the first period.
The Yellowjackets soon showed of their own goal-scoring power, bouncing back at 11:34. Patrick was able to find twine on the 'Jacket power play, getting the assist from Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park), and cutting the Falcon lead to two goals. Just three minutes later, Martinson was able to add another point to her line, scoring a goal at 15:34 on a pass from Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover). The 'Jackets would head into the locker room down just 3-2 after one period.
Superior would enter the period with a power-play opportunity, and was able to capitalize; Kelly Cockerill (Selkirk, Man./Oak Park) scored her third goal of the season on the one-timer, tying the game at 3-3. The scoring continued for both teams as the Falcons netted their fourth of the game at the 2:02 mark, but the lead wouldn't last for long as Jenna Curtis (Siren, Wis./Webster) was able to get the power-play goal at 3:48 of the period. Evening the game once again. Â
The nets continued to take a beating, River Falls would get out in front at 7:08, but Patirck had the answer again as she scored at 13:56 on the assist from Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids), tying the game for the third time. The Falcons would score two quick goals to end the third, leading 7-5.
The scoring suddenly stopped in the third period, as neither team could find the net, and only one penalty was handed out. The 'Jackets pulled Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) from goal in the final 1:24, but couldn't tack on the two needed to tie, falling to the Falcons 7-5.
In the high-scoring affair, Brown saved 29 pucks, including 13 in the final period. The Yellowjackets also were behind in shots (29-24) and faceoffs (37-32).
Superior will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon as they host the Falcons in their final matchup of the season at 2 p.m. in Wessman Arena.
