SUPERIOR, Wis. (January 27, 2018) – In their second meeting of a back-to-back, the 'Jackets found themselves in a hole to UW-River Falls, and were unable to climb out.
It was a free flowing opening six minutes, as only two whistles were blown. It was a wild change of pace from the night before, the Falcons put up seven shots to the Yellowjackets' four, but neither team could find the twine. It was a 0-0 tie after one period of play.
It didn't take long for the game to pick up in the second period. The Falcons found the net just 47 seconds into the period when Sam Young scored. The Falcons would then add another at 7:43 of the second to make it a wider 2-0 gap.
The game soon became 3-0 at 14:44 when Carly Moran scored for the Falcons, putting Superior in a hole to start the final period.
The goals continued for the Falcons, scoring two goals in the first two minutes of the period, going up 5-0 on the 'Jackets, proving to be the final goal of the game.
Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) faced 28 shots in the game, saving 23.
The Yellowjackets struggled to get up shots in the contest, get 11 on goal, led by Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) with three, followed by Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) and Celina Clark (Waterdown, Ont./St. Mary) with two each. Â They did, however, keep it close in the faceoff circle, back only three, 24-21.
Superior also kept out of the penalty box relatively well, surrendering only three offenses.
The 'Jackets will take about a week off and then host back-to-back matchups with UW-Stevens Point. The first game slated for a 7 p.m. puck drop Friday, Feb. 9.
