FOND DU LAC, Wis.: The UW-Superior men's basketball team received 22 points from Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) and another 21 by Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn), but Marian handed the Yellowjackets their third consecutive loss, 74-66, at Sadoff Gym Saturday.
Superior never had a lead in the game, but got as close as six at 63-57 with 3:38 remaining when Reykdal hit a pair of free throws. The Yellowjackets had come back from 18 points down with just 8:18 left in the second half to that point, but could get no closer.
Scott added a game-high seven rebounds while Ronny Galvan (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) contributed 10 points, four bounds and four steals in the loss.
The 'Jackets outshot Marian in the first half, hitting 14 of their 30 shots (46.67 percent) to the Sabres' 13-of-31 (42 percent), but Marian finished with 52-percent shooting in the second half.
Marian won its season opener putting three players in double figures. Tavaris McCullough had 22 points and five rebounds, while Logan Hamilton and Hunter Schulz both had 11 points. Schulz played just 12 minutes off the bench.
Marian scored 24 fast-break points and got 34 from its bench in the win.
Superior (1-3) returns home to host UW-River Falls at Mertz Mortorelli Gym Wednesday at 5 p.m.
