SUPERIOR, Wis.:Â Augsburg scored two times in the second period and goaltender McKenna Manalli made 15 saves to shut out the UW-Superior hockey team at Wessman Arena Tuesday.

Maddy Gamst (Moose Lake, Minn./Moose Lake) made her collegiate debut in the Yellowjackets' net, stopping 29 saves, including 13 in the middle stanza.

With the win, Augsburg improved to 5-1-1 on the season. Superior fell to 2-6-1 in the loss.

The Auggies were strong defensively all night, limiting the 'Jackets to just eight shots on goal through two periods. They finished with a season-low 15.

Mikayla Jones gave Augsburg the lead at 6:03 of the second period when she took a pass from Megan Johnson. Gamst's poke check came up empty and Jones slipped the puck in between her pads for a 1-0 edge.

The Auggies added to their lead just over six minutes later. Jeanette Bealke converted the rebound of an Emily Ach shot, beating Gamst to the glove side. Ellie Tabaka also assisted on the goal, which came at 12:15.

Gamst came up big with a minute remaining in the period, stopping Jones on a breakaway. She flashed the right pad to keep the deficit at two, giving her team a chance to get back into it.

UWS got three power plays in the third period and generated four shots on those opportunities, but Manalli was up to the task to preserve the win the win.

Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) fired a team-high six shots for the 'Jackets, while
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) was solid in the faceoff circle, winning 15-of-29 draws.
Jenna Curtis (Webster, Wis./Webster) also won 10 of the 19 faceoffs she took for the game.Â
