RIVER FALLS, Wis.: Sixth-ranked UW-River Falls scored once in the first period and again in the third, and Tatyana Delaittre made 25 saves to shut out the UW-Superior women's hockey team, 2-0, at Hunt Arena Saturday.
With the loss, the Yellowjackets drop to 2-7-1 overall and 0-3-1 in league play. The Falcons improve to 8-1-0 and 3-0-0 in the win
River Falls opened the scoring 5:44 into the first period as Madi Nolan beat Superior goaltender Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) with assists from Alyson Niebur and Kianna Gilbraith.
The Falcons doubled their lead in the third on the power play. Erin Olson found Ashley Effertz, who put the puck past Johnson at the 5:48 mark.
Johnson stopped 25-of-27 shots she faced, falling to 1-6-0 in net. Delaittre moved to 4-1-0 with her second shutout of the season.
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) had a game-high five shots on goal, while C.C. Hayes (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances) had four, Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) and Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) tallied three apiece.
The Falcons finished 1-for-2 on the power play, while the 'Jackets didn't have a player-up opportunity for the game.
The Yellowjackets return to action Tuesday at Hamline. Faceoff is slated for 5 p.m.
