Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Blugolds Defeat Yellowjackets, 68-56, Despite Scott, Reykdal

SUPERIOR, Wis.: Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) scored a game-high 24 points and Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) added 16, but UW-Eau Claire outlasted the UW-Superior men's basketball team for a 68-56 victory at Mertz Mortorelli Gym on Wednesday.

Scott shot 9-for-16 from the floor, grabbing nine rebounds, while Reykdal made 4-of-8 3-pointers, had two rebounds, an assist and a steal, as the Yellowjackets fell to 1-5 on the season. With the win, the Blugolds, who placed four players in double figures, improved to 4-1.

Down by as many as 10 points with less than seven minutes to play in the first half, Superior made a charge to take the lead, 24-23 on a Reykdal trey, assisted by Joan Giner (Tenerife, Spain/IES Mayor Bernabé Rodríguez), with 4:18 left before the break. The basket capped a run that also began with another Reykdal 3-pointer and featured scoring contributions from Scott and John Pioro (Proctor, Minn./Proctor), as well.

Eau Claire seized the lead back at halftime for a 28-26 advantage at the break.

The Blugolds scored seven of the first nine points in the first five minutes of the second half to lead, 35-28. Spencer Page hit a trey, assisted by Steve Christensen, to cap the stretch and Eau Claire didn't look back.

The Blugolds won the boards, 33-25 and turned 15 Yellowjacket turnovers into 21 points.

Cole Rabedeaux led Eau Claire with 16 points while Page had 13 and Sean Miller 12. Ben Widdes rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.

Superior is back in action at UW-Stevens Point Saturday at 5 p.m.
