Four Post Multiple Points as No. 12 Trinity Beats UWS, 5-3, in Showdown Opener

SUPERIOR, Wis.: Ryan Pfeffer and Lucas Michaud scored two goals apiece for the No. 12 Trinty (Conn.) and Devin Moore tallied three assists to lead the No. 12 Bantams over the UW-Superior men's hockey team in the second-annual Superior Showdown at Wessman Arena Saturday.
 
Four players recorded multiple points for the Bantams (5-2-2) as James Callahan also added a pair of assists.
 
Trinity jumped out to a 3-0 lead through two periods with Pfeffer's fifth and sixth goals of the season, both assisted by Moore, in the first period, and a power-play goal by Taggart Corriveau with 23 seconds left in the second.
 
Alec MacKenzie's (Ottawa, Ontario/École Secondaire Garneau) first goal of the season, off of a feed from Will Blake (Champlin, Minn./Breck), came just 18 seconds into the third period to put UWS (4-9-2) on the scoreboard. 
 
The Bantams responded with Michaud's first of the night less than four minutes later to make it 4-1. The goal was assisted by Michael Grande and Timothy Weinstein at 3:45.
 
Levi Cudmore (Park River, N.D./Park River) cut the lead in half at 8:48 of the third, making it 4-2 from Pavel Mikhasenok (Yekaterinburg, Russia/Everest Academy) and Jason Cohan (Vancouver, British Columbia/Handsworth Secondary), before Michaud put the game out of reach with his second from Moore at 11:37.
 
Daniel Litchke (Superior, Wis./Superior) capped the scoring, beating Trinity goaltender Teddy Loughborough (27 saves, 3-1-1) for his third of the season from Liam Blais (Uxbridge, Ontario/Uxbridge Secondary) and Bruno Birzitis (Riga, Latvia/Riga Distance Education Secondary) with 46 second left.
 
Trinity went 2-for-6 on the power play with 13 shots while UWS was 0-for-5 with eight power-play shots.
 
A.J. Smith (Keller, Texas/Southlake Carroll) (3-5-2) made 38 saves for the Yellowjackets, who face No. 13 St. Scholastica in the consolation game Sunday at 4 p.m.
 
Trinity faces No. 10 Marian for the tournament championship at 7:05 p.m.
