MARQUETTE, Mich. (February 24, 2018) – It was an even split to open the 2017-18 Superior softball season, as the 'Jackets beat the Edgewood Eagles and fell to the Marian Sabres.

Game 1

Macy Hanson was electric from the circle, only allowing three hits in a complete seven innings for a win. She tossed 13 strikeouts from that spot and was also responsible for one hit from the batter's box.

Kayla Hartl go the bottom of the second rolling for the Yellowjackets, putting up a double. Alayna Tulip then pushed Hartl to third base on a ground ball, and Bobbijean Miller reached on an error to bring the unearned run in to home, getting a 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets made another dent in the fourth inning, collecting a run after a two singles from Gabby Gidley and Hartl; Gidley was pushed home by a Miller sac fly to right to go up 2-0.

The two final runs of the game came in the fifth inning as Ciarra Stavang reached on an error and a Katie White RBI double found the third score. It was then Hanson's single that moved White to third, and a wild pitch that brought her home.

The 'Jackets would seal the last two innings with just two runners left on and two Hanson Ks.

Game 2

The Yellowjackets managed just two hits in the five innings played against the Sabres, as Miller singled in the second inning, and Hartl also had a one-bagger in the fourth inning. Superior also capitalized on a few errors from Marian, advancing runners, but was never able to get across home for the score.

Bailee Kinnunnen took the loss for the 'Jackets after 3.2 innings pitched, including two strikeouts.

Superior will play in the second half of the day to finish up the Finlandia Dome Classic, first battling Concordia (Wis.) at 3 p.m. CDT, and then the host Finlanida Lions at 5 p.m. CDT.
