FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 18, 2018) – The Yellowjackets got their revenge against Knox College Sunday afternoon, beating the Prairie Fire 4-1, but they then fell in a close game to the North Central Cardinal in their second game of the day.
Game 1
The 'Jackets got off to a fast start against Prairie Fire; Ciarra Stavang (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld ) led off with a single to center, Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) got to first on a bunt but then advanced on an error on second, scoring both. The Yellowjackets were up 2-0 after one inning.
Macy Hanson (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) pitched a solid first few innings, allowing two hits through three innings. Saige Patrick (Steinbach, Man./St. Mary's Academy) began the fourth inning with a single to center, followed by Bobbijean Miller who doubled, bringing Patrick home. Two sacrifice hits from Sarah Ferjan and Gabby Gidley (Superior, Wis./Superior) would bring Miller home for the Yellowjackets final run of the game for Superior.
Hanson continued to pitch well, allowing just one run on seven hits, while striking out four batters.
The Yellowjackets came out on top, 4-1.
Game 2
The North Central Cardinal would score three runs in the first two innings to take an early lead.
Superior got a run on the board in the third inning as Stavang went yard with one out. The fifth inning saw more scoring from the 'Jackets when Cragg who doubled to right, drove in Bailey Kinnunum, followed by a Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes) double that brought home Stavang and Cragg for a 4-3 lead.
The Cardinal would rally for two runs in the sixth inning after two errors from Superior, taking the lead once again.
Patrick would start a rally for the 'Jackets in the top of the second, reaching base on a double. White drove her in on a single, but the 'Jackets couldn't add the game-tying run, falling short 6-5.

The Yellowjackets will have Monday off as they travel to Orlando for a slew of games, starting with Allegheny College at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
