ORLANDO, Fla. (March 24, 2018) – Superior pulled out two wins Saturday morning to finish off their Spring Break schedule in Orlando.
Game 1
It was a tight battle through the first two innings, Macy Hanson (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) would strikeout two of the first six. The Ephs would then score three runs on five hits.
The Yellowjackets would fire back in their half of the third inning. Lizzy Borgwardt (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) pinch-hit a single and Ciarra Stavang (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld ) singled to advance Borgwardt to second; a fielding error from Williams pushed Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) to first and brought Borgwardt home on an unearned run. Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes) then put her bat to work and roped a single to right field, scoring the two base runners. It was tied 3-3.
Superior added more in the inning when Bailey Kinnunen (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) reached on from the Ephs' short shop, scoring White. The final run of the inning was brought on a Bobbijean Miller double to right, scoring Kinnunen. The Yellowjackets had a 5-3 lead.
Damara Theis (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) continued her relief pitching efforts to complete the game and hold Williams at bay. The Ephs would score on a homer in the final inning, but Theis pitched well, getting her first win of the season 5-4.
Game 2
Superior got the scoring started in top of the first against Thomas, taking a 2-0 lead after a Cragg double and an error from the Terriers.
Another run was added in the third for the 'Jackets, Gabby Gidley (Superior, Wis./Superior) singled to center to start the inning, and a few more errors would get Gidley to third and Sarah Fjeran (Duluth, Minn./Marshall School) to second. Fjeran then stole third and pushed Gidley home with one more Thomas error. It was 3-0 Superior.
Theis would pitch in the second game and continue her hot streak, retiring batters one after the other. The bases would load for Superior in the fourth inning when Cragg, Stavang, and Fjeran found first, second, and third on singles. A Patrick double would bring all three runners home for a 6-0 lead over Thomas.
The fifth saw two scores from the Terriers, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Yellowjackets, as Theis got another win, 6-2.

Superior will begin their UMAC schedule a week from Saturday when they play the Crown College Storm Saturday March 31 in St. Bonifacius, Minn.
