ST. PAUL, Minn. (March 5, 2018) – The Yellowjackets fell in two games to the Bethel Royals at the West St. Paul Sports Complex Monday afternoon.
Game 1
Macy Hanson (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg) would strikeout 2-of-3 batters in the bottom of the first inning; the 'Jackets then added two in the top of the second to take the lead. Alayna Tulip (Arcadia, Wis./Arcadia) would find first base on a single, followed by Maggie Cragg (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) who tripled to centerfield to bring Tulip home for the first score. A wild pitch then brought Cragg home for a 2-0 lead.
The game would see scoreless innings until the bottom of the seventh when Bethel added two runs. The Royals reached on a wild pitch followed by a walk, and a triple to left field would bring both runners home.
The 2-2 tie would force extras.
Two strikeouts and a fly ball to center would shut down the Yellowjackets' eighth inning try, and a sacrifice fly would give the Royals their first win of the season.
Hanson would pitch all 7.2 innings, accumulating 14 Ks in the game, while Tulip was electric in the box, getting two doubles and a single.
Game 2
It was a tough go for the Yellowjackets in the second game, getting four hits from Ciarra Stavang (Duluth, Minn./Denfeld ), Gabby Gidley (Superior, Wis./Superior), Katie White (Pequot Lakes, Minn./Pequot Lakes), and Tulip. The Royals would score their nine runs in four of the seven innings.
