SUPERIOR, Wis. (April 29, 2018) – The Yellowajackets won their fifth-straight game Sunday afternoon, sweeping the North Central Rams for five conference wins.
Game 1
The scoring started in the second inning for Superior, as Alex Osness (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) drove home Matthew Boyde (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) with a sacrifice fly to center, after Boyde led off with a single. Superior held a 1-0 lead early.
The Rams responded with two runs in the second after two hits and a 'Jacket error, but Superior would find two of their own in the following half inning when Cory Albertson (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) hit his sixth home run of the season for a 3-2 'Jacket lead.
Superior added more runs in the fourth to help our Auggie Anderson (Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley), who got the start on the mound. Gregg Pitts singled to center field for two RBIs, scoring Brandon Rolf (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater) and Spencer Lawniczak (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski), while Jordan Berrios (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) singled to third to score Osness for a 6-2 lead.
North Central added two runs in two innings for a 6-5-game, but the insurance run came in the top of the ninth for Superior when Berrios walked to start the inning, and then scored from third on a passed ball.
Brady Stocker (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) pitched the final four innings for Superior, getting the save and securing Anderson his first win of the season.
Game 2
C. Albertson continued his good hitting into the second, scoring McNosky on a single after he stole second for a 1-0 'Jacket lead after one. The Rams went on to tie the game at 1-1 after a 'Jacket wild pitch in the bottom of the third.
The came continued to be tight until the fifth inning when Stephen Albertson (Stillwater, Minn/Stillwater), Mike Rodriguez (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech), and Rolf loaded the bases and McNosky was able to sacrifice to left, scoring S. Albertson.
C. Albertson added to the lead with a singled through the right side for two RBIs and a 4-1 score, followed by Rolf who grounded out to the first baseman to score Osness in the seventh inning for 5-1.
Ryan Rodriguez (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) was quietly having a day on the mound, pitching seven innings for Superior, striking out nine batters, and allowing no hits.
Superior added one more run in the top of the eighth inning with a Jordan Berrios (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) single to left field to score Boyde. The Rams would threaten with a run in the eighth, but Joe Kanipes (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing) pitched the final two innings for the 'Jackets.
McNosky was 3-of-8 from the dish, while had three hits and five RBIs on the day.
