MEQUON, Wis.: Concordia Wisconsin's Jossa Danis scored 3:20 into overtime on the power play to lift her team over the UW-Superior women's hockey team at the Ozaukee Ice Center Friday.
Danis, who figured into both of the Falcons' goals on the day, completed the comeback after
Katie Montrose (Byron, Minn./Byron) was called for body checking at 3:08 of the extra session. Concordia took advantage of the extra skater as Danis beat UWS goaltender
Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) for the winner. Kristen Kennedy and Emily Godwin earned assists on the play.
The Yellowjackets wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, scoring just 53 seconds into the game.
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) potted her 12th goal of the season for the lead, with assists from
Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) and
Sam Westgaard (Elk River, Minn./Elk River).
The lead stood for 49 minutes before Ally Hull knotted the game at 10:07 of the third period with her third goal. Danis and Natasha Wanless picked up helpers on the tally that forced overtime.
The Falcons outshot Superior, 33-27, and were 1-for-5 on the power play. Christina Pattengale got the win the net for CUW, which improved 7-4-2 on the year. UWS fell to 6-10-2 with the loss.
Martinson's first-period goal extended her point streak to six games. She has multiple points in three of those contests and has goals in five-of-six games.
The two teams close their weekend series Saturday at Saturday at 1 p.m.
