‘Jackets Earn Split at Concordia with 4-2 Win Saturday

MEQUON, Wis.: Four different players scored goals as the UW-Superior women's hockey team topped Concordia Wisconsin, 4-2, at Ozaukee Ice Center Saturday.

Amber Heidenreich (Phillips, Wis./Hayward) scored midway through the second period and it stood as the game winner as the 'Jackets claimed a weekend split and improved to 7-10-1 on the season.

Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island), Jenna Curtis (Webster, Wis./Webster) and Mandy Tomlinson (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) also scored for UWS. Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) stopped 29 shots in net for her fifth win of the season. Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) tallied two assists to keep her point streak, which is now at seven consecutive games.

Just like Friday, Superior got on the scoreboard early, scoring just 2:07 into the contest. Shelton scored her fifth goal of the season from Martinson for the lead. Curtis doubled the advantage almost nine minutes later with her fifth from Jenna Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) and Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) at 10:55 of the period.

The Falcons cut into their deficit with the first of two-power play goals. Ellie Woodman scored at 16:30 of the first from Emily Godwin to go into intermission down one.

CUW's Kristen Kennedy tied the game at two at 6:34 of the second with an unassisted goal, again of the power play.

Three-and-a-half minutes later, Amber Heidenreich (Phillips, Wis./Hayward) scored with an assist from Myka Sutherland (Champlin, Minn./Home School) for the go-ahead goal at 10:09 of the second. The goal was Heidenreich's third of the year.

Mandy Tomlinson (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) put the game away on the power play with 2:40 to play, making it 4-2. Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and Martinson assisted on her fourth of the season.

Concordia dropped to 7-5-2 in the loss.

The 'Jackets next face Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn., Tuesday at 7 p.m.
