SUPERIOR, Wis.:Â Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) scored 28 points,
Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) added 18 and
John Pioro (Proctor, Minn./Proctor) 13 as the UW-Superior men's basketball team outlasted Martin Luther, 74-69 in a double-overtime thriller at Mertz Mortorelli Gym Saturday.

Superior outscored MLC, 13-8, in the second overtime to earn its fourth win in five games, improving to 6-14 overall and 4-7 in the UMAC. The 'Jackets also moved to 2-0 in overtime games this season. Martin Luther dropped to 5-14 and 2-9.

Superior jumped out to a 25-10 advantage midway through the first half, but the Knights whittled the deficit to just eight as Nate Lindloff closed the half with a 3-pointer for a 34-26 lead at the break.

The Knights used a 16-5 run to begin the second half, regaining the lead for the first time since 2-0 when Ian Paulsen converted a layup with 11:30 remaining in regulation to make it 42-41. A Reykdal three, assisted by Scott, gave the lead back to the Yellowjackets, 47-46, with 6:31 to go. Paulsen responded with a jumper and Reykdal answered with a layup from
Joseph Kramer (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) for a 49-48 lead with 5:42 left. Reykdal then drained a trey to give UWS a 52-48 edge with 1:57 to play.Â

Paulsen, though, scored four straight points to tie the game at 52 with 32 seconds left.
Ronny Galvan (Beloit, Wis./Beloit Turner) missed a putback at the buzzer that would have won it for the 'Jackets, setting the stage for overtime.

The teams traded the lead in the first extra period with neither up by more than three.
Carter Brown (Eau Claire, Wis. /Regis Catholic) knocked down a triple to send the game to a second OT.Â

Scott and Reykedal combined for six of the first eight points to give UWS a 67-63 advantage with 1:16 remaining. Nate Goelzer turned the ball over for MLC on the next possession, sending Pioro to the line for two free throws with a foul. Pioro made them and Scott made two more to extend the lead to 71-63 with 20 seconds left, as Superior head on for the win.
