MANKATO, Minn.: Haley Sandin scored a game-high 32 points to help Bethany Lutheran snap the UW-Superior women's basketball team's 53-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference winning streak with a 72-60 win at North Gymnasium Saturday.
Sandin was perfect from the free-throw line, making all of her 18 attempts, adding five rebounds and four assists. Hanna Geistfeld registered 12 points and five boards while playing a large part to neutralize the Yellowjackets in the paint.

Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) scored a team-high 19 points, including 15 in the second half, as Superior dropped its first league game – regular season or otherwise – since joining the conference for the 2015-16 season. The 'Jackets are now 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the UMAC.
Bethany Lutheran scored 46 points in the second and third quarters combined to pull away. The Vikings led by 16 at halftime and 23 at the end of the third. The 'Jackets made things interesting in the fourth quarter, outscoring BLC by 12 points. UWS whittled the deficit to 12 with just less than five minutes to play when Reinertsen knocked down a 3-pointer off of an
Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) pass, but the Vikings scored eight of the next 10 points to put the game out of reach.
Kaly Kostrova (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) gave UWS its first lead of the game with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter on a driving layup to make it 8-6, capping a stretch of four consecutive points for her. Norlin followed with a layup on the next possession for what was the 'Jackets' largest lead of the game at 10-6 with 2:40 left in the quarter.
The Vikings scored five straight points prior to
Sydney Franks (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) giving UWS its final lead of the game with a layup to make it a 12-11 game with one minute left in the period. Bethany Lutheran's Natasha Young made a pair from the free thrown line for a 13-12 lead heading into the second quarter.
Superior was limited to just nine points in the second quarter as the Vikings lengthened their lead going into the break. An
Ellie Leadstrom (Superior, Wis./Superior) jumper after a Kane steal with 7:39 remaining in the third made it a 13-point, 41-28 game, but BLC used a 7-0 run to open a 48-28 lead with five-and-a-half minutes left in the quarter.
UWS outrebounded BLC, 40-27, and outshot the Vikings. The Yellowjackets made 22-of-53 (41.5 percent) from the floor, while the Vikings converted 20-of-51 shots (39.2 percent).
