HANCOCK, Mich.:Â Seven UW-Superior women's hockey players recorded multiple points, led by
Molly Shelton's (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) one-goal, four-assist effort, as the Yellowjackets' offense exploded for a 10-1 win over Finlandia at the Houghton County Arena Sunday.

The win secured a four-game season-series sweep of the Lions in which UWS outscored Finlandia, 25-4. Â

Shelton's four-assist day is tied for fifth in single-game program history.
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) scored a hat trick in the second period and added an assist for four points, while
Ty Bischoff (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) tallied a goal and two assists. Other multi-point games came from
Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) (two goals),
Lauren Niska (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria Area) (goal, assist) and
Jenna Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) and
Amber Heidenreich (Phillips, Wis./Hayward) (two assists each).

With the victory, UWS improved to 6-9-1 and has won four of its last five games overall. Finlandia fell to 0-15 with the loss.

The Yellowjackets exploded for five goals in the second period, including a power-play goal and a short-handed goal by Martinson.Â

With the 'Jackets up, 3-1, after a power-play goal from Finlandia's Abby Kolek at 11:15 of the second, Martinson finished off a 2-on-1 at the right post for her first goal of the day. Niska and Shelton assisted on Martinson's ninth of the season at 13:17.

Martinson potted a power-play goal less than two minutes later, beating Finlandia goaltender Sarah Gundry with a shot from the point at 14:53.
Mandy Tomlinson (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca) and Shelton assisted on the play for a 5-1 lead.

Superior then scored twice on the same penalty kill. Sergent and Heidenreich combined on their second goal of the day, the team's second short-handed goal of the season at 16:29 for a 6-1 lead, before Martinson completed the hat trick with an assist from Shelton to make it 7-1 just 31 seconds later.

Niska,
C.C. Hayes (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances) and
Jenna Curtis (Webster, Wis./Webster) scored third-period goals for the 'Jackets to account for the final margin.
Katie Montrose (Byron, Minn./Byron), a freshman transfer from St. Catherine, playing her second game for the Yellowjackets, assisted on the Hayes goal. That marker made it 9-1 at 12:19 of the third.

Sergent opened the scoring at 9:27 of the first period, putting a wrist shot past Gundry from the right faceoff circle. Bischoff and Heidenreich assisted on Sergent's third goal of the season and second of the weekend.
Bischoff doubled the lead for the 'Jackets at 15:45. She collected a pass from Byfuglien in the neutral zone, stepped across the blue line and, using a defender as a screen, fired a shot over Gundry's glove. The goal was her second of the year.

Superior outshot Finlandia, 53-15.
Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) improved to 4-8-0 with the win in net, making 14 saves. Gundry turned away 43 shots in the loss.Â

UWS went 1-for-3 on the power play with 11 shots, while Finlandia was 1-for-4 and surrendered the two short-handed goals.Â

For a second consecutive the 'Jackets were strong at the dot. Superior won 48-of-79 faceoffs (60.7 percent).
