SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior goalkeeper
Morgan Philliber (Apple Valley, Minn./Edina) made a career-high 15 saves for the UW-Superior women's soccer team, but UW-Stout pulled out a 1-0 win at NBC Spartan Sports Complex Tuesday.
The Blue Devils used a 56th-minute goal from Rachel Steele and strong defensive play to earn the victory. Stout improved to 3-5-0 on the season while the Yellowjackets fell to 2-6-2 overall.
On the match's only goal, Steele took a cross from Sammy Krugel and fired the ball high into the center of the net for the lead.
Philliber was sensational in goal before and after the Stout tally. The 'Jackets were outshot 23-3 in and Philliber kept her team in it to the end.
UWS forced Stout goalie Claudia Anderson into two saves.
Superior returns to UMAC play Saturday at 4:30 p.m., at Martin Luther.
