ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Sophomore
Annah Schussman (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) scored a hat trick in just 3:53 early in the second half to propel the UW-Superior women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Crown at Old National Bank Stadium Tuesday.
Schussman made it 1-0 at 46:59 from
Emma Street (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis) and the two combined again at 48:53 to double the lead.
Hailey Miller (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) fed Schussman to complete her first career hat trick at 50:51. Schussman has eight goals on the season.
The quick strikes in the second stanza – from either just outside the penalty area or further – gave UWS its third consecutive win and extended its unbeaten streak to begin UMAC play to four matches. The Yellowjackets are now 5-7-2 overall.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Madison Gutekunst (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka) earned her second shutout of the season, making five saves, including four in the second half.
The 'Jackets outshot Crown, 18-11, on the day and 11-5 in shots on target. Michaela Cowman made eight saves in the Storm net as Crown fell to 4-8-0 and 0-4-0 in the UMAC.
UWS returns home to face Minnesota Morris Saturday at 1 p.m.
