OSWEGO, N.Y. – The UW-Superior women's basketball team used a 28-point third quarter to separate from Clarkson, taking a 67-50 victory over the Golden Knights in the championship game of the Max Ziel Women's Basketball Tournament Saturday.

Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) registered game highs of 15 points and six assists, while junior
Pashia Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) chipped in with 11 to lead the offense. Both were named to the all-tournament team, with Reinertsen claiming MVP honors.Â

UWS shot 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor for the first time this season, evening its record to 2-2 overall.

The 'Jackets also got solid contributions on the day from junior
Ellie Leadstrom (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and senior
Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) who had nine and eight points, respectively. Leadstrom just missed her first career double-double, pulling down a career-best 10 rebounds. Ruiz threw in four assists.

UWS outrebounded Clarkson, 39-28, marking the first time this year that it held a double-digit edge on the glass. The 'Jackets limited Clarkson (1-1) to less than 30 percent shooting as the Golden Knights connected on just 16 shots.

Leading, 29-22, at halftime, Superior hit on 10-of-15 attempts in the third quarter, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, ending the period with a 57-30 advantage. Reinertsen tallied six points, two assists and two rebounds in the quarter.

The lead only dipped below 20 points in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

The game was tight for the first 14 minutes before Superior opened a 10-point lead on a Reinertsen layup for a 24-14 lead. Clarkson scored the next six to cut the deficit 24-20 with four minute remaining in the second quarter. Emma Buonanno hit a layup with 143 left in the half, before
Mackenzie Kmecik (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) scored the final four points of the half.

The 'Jackets next face a tough test, traveling to ninth-ranked St. Thomas Wednesday at 7 p.m.
