DE PERE, Wis. – Senior
Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade (Serbia)) collected his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds, but St. Norbert ran from the UW-Superior men's basketball team, 76-46, in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament at Mulva Family Sport Center Sunday.
The Yellowjackets (6-5), who snapped a four-game winning steak with the loss, face Edgewood in the tournament consolation game Monday at 5 p.m. The Eagles dropped the first game of the event, 94-91, to UW-Stout.
The tournament-host Green Knights shot the lights out, finishing at nearly 51 percent overall. SNC connected on 28 of its 55 attempts on the night, including going 10-for-18 from 3-point range (55.6 percent). UWS, though, started strong, taking a six-point 17-11 lead in the game's first five-plus minutes.
Mac Reykdal (Washburn, Wis./Washburn) gave Superior that advantage, hitting a layup with 14:14 on the clock. The bucket capped an opening spurt that saw UWS knock down three 3-pointers.
St. Norbert found its rhythm after that. The Green Knights took their first lead since the first possession of the game with a Jacob Bolwerk layup with 10:50 remaining in the half for 19-17. Milenkovic responded with a layup of his own, after clearing the defensive board, to tie the game.
The 'Jackets went cold from there, missing their next six shots while St. Norbert engineered a 16-0 run and a commanding 35-19 lead with just over three minutes to play in the first half. Superior trailed, 36-23, at the break.
Mason Ackley (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) hit a jumper in the opening minute of the second half and Milenkovic a layup at the 17:10 mark to cut the deficit to 36-27, but that was as close as UWS got.
St. Norbert (6-2) placed both Joe Ciriacks and Michael Payant in double figures with 15 and 11 points, respectively. SNC was plus-20 on the glass, holding a 49-29 edge.
