DE PERE, Wis. – Allen Anderson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo) hit a clutch 3-pointer with 14 seconds remaining for the tie, but Edgwood's Anthony Lyons knocked down a pair of free throws 10 seconds later, as the Eagles held on for a 74-72 win over the UW-Superior men's basketball team in the consolation game of the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament Monday.
Â
The game-tying shot from Anderson erased a 72-64 deficit, created on a Ryan Buss layup with 1:02 left.
Eli Vogel (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) fouled Lyons on the ensuing possession and he stepped up and drained two from the stripe. Anderson's jumper at the buzzer was off the mark as the Yellowjackets dropped to 6-6 on the season.
Â
Anderson led all players with 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting, while
Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade (Serbia)) and
Mason Ackley (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds each to pace UWS, which held a 36-29 lead at halftime.
Â
Edgewood, though, missed just 10 shots in the second half, going 13-of-23 from the floor, to claw its way back into the game. Lyons hit a jumper to slice the lead to 38-37 just 2:38 in the half. Anderson,
Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn./Columbia Heights) and Ackley responded with the next three buckets to restore a 44-37 lead. Milenkovic then connected on a trey with 12:17 left, pushing the lead back to eight at 53-45, before Ben Seefeld's layup with just less than eight minutes left gave the Eagles a 56-55 edge.
Â
Joe Kramer (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Anderson each had baskets to give the lead back to Superior, 61-59, but the Eagles (3-7) used an 11-3 run, capped by the Buss basket, to take control. UWS didn't quit, however, as Anderson sank two free throws with 44 seconds on the clock. Vogel followed with a triple off of a pass by Milenkovic 10 seconds after that to set the stage for Anderson's equalizer.
Â
Milenkovic -- who earned a spot on the all-tournament team -- and Ackley also finished in double figures for the 'Jackets with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Edgewood placed four players in double digits with Lyons' 21 points leading the way.

UWS returns to UMAC play at Crown on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tip time at the Wild Athletic Center is 5:30 p.m.
