Balanced Attack, Reinertsen’s Career Day Lead ‘Jackets Past North Central

MINNEAPOLIS – Senior Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) netted a career-high 26 points on 10-for-19 shooting to lead four UW-Superior women's basketball players scoring double digits in a 76-63 victory at North Central Saturday.

Classmate Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) added a career-best 20 of her own, while senior Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) and junior Pashia Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively. UWS evened its record to 4-4, improving to 2-0 in the UMAC, in the win.

Reinertsen completed her third career double-double with a career-high 13 rebounds. She also had career highs of six assists and four blocks to go with two steals.

The Yellowjackets led wire-to-wire, opening a 21-13 advantage after one quarter and holding a 42-33 edge at halftime. Ruiz gave her team its largest lead of the day on a 3-pointer assisted by Mikayla Koivisto (Floodwood, Minn./Floodwood) with four minutes gone in the fourth quarter at 73-52.

UWS limited North Central (3-4, 1-1) to less than 28 percent shooting from the floor for the game and 4-of-24 from long range. The 'Jackets shot 38 percent themselves, made nine treys, missing just three of their 18 free throws.

Reinertsen got Superior off and running, scoring 18 points in the first half, including 11 in the opening period, on her way to topping her previous career high of 25 points. Ruiz knocked down five 3-pointers, had a game-high-tying six assists and had three steals. Carpenter added four assists and five steals.

Naomi Hagstrom led the Rams with 16 points while Emily DiGiorgio chipped in with 13.

UWS returns to Mertz Mortorelli Gym Wednesday to host St. Scholastica at 7:15 p.m.
