FARGO, N.D.: The UW-Superior women's tennis team swept all three doubles matches against Concordia (Minn.) Saturday, and hung on in singles to earn its first victory of the season, 5-4, on Saturday at Courts Plus.
The Yellowjackets top doubles pair of
Alison Tollas (Ashland, Wis./Ashland) and
Mariah Linder (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) was the off the court with an 8-5 win over the Cobbers' Jenna Foeknell and Ivy Matson.
Emily Wald (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) and
Kitana Honkola (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert) followed, beating Lisa Neumann and Carrie Voss, 8-3, for a two-match advantage.
Megan Dulong (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids) and
Maya Callaway (Duluth, Minn./East) then dispatched the No. 3 duo of Josie Beachy and Lexi Johnson, 8-6, to give Superior all three doubles points.
Dulong took care of Mattson on court 2, 6-3, 6-3 to push it to 4-0 UWS edge. Callaway clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Johnson at No. 5 singles.
Concordia took the other four matchups, but the match was already decided.
With the win, the 'Jackets improve to 1-2 on the season, while the Cobbers fall to 0-4.
Superior returns home to face UW-Stout March 10 at 1 p.m., at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse.
