SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior men's tennis team opened its regular-season home and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference schedule blanking Martin Luther, 9-0, at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse Saturday.
UWS (3-7, 1-0 UMAC) won all nine matches in straight sets over Martin Luther (3-6, 0-1).
Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) and
Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) opened the day, making quick work of their No. 1 doubles match with Joshua Schroeder and Jonah Schulz, 8-1.
Leonardo Paredes (Uberlandia, Brazil/Colegio Sao Paschoall) and Grady Hauswith took care of Caleb and Seth Koelpin, 8-2, before
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) and Anthony Michels topped Matthew Miskowski and Jonathan Marquardt on court three, 8-4, to sweep doubles.
Borst dispatched Schroeder, 6-1, 6-1, to begin singles action at the No. 1 spot, making it a 4-0 match.
Carter Lamont gave the 'Jackets their fifth point, clinching the match, with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Seth Koelpin on court four.
Other victories on the day came from Sherman (6-3, 6-3 over Caleb Koelpin at No. 3 singles), Mangan (6-1, 6-3 over Christopher Walther at No. 5) and Paredes (6-2, 6-2 over Schulz at No. 2).
Michaels closed the match not surrendering a single game in beating Luke Meihack, 6-0, 6-0.
Superior next travels to Lakeville, Minn., to face North Central Friday at Lifetime Athletic Club. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
