ST. PETER, Minn. -- The UW-Superior men's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over Bethany Lutheran at Swanson Tennis Center Saturday.
The Yellowjackets improved to 5-7 overall and kept their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference mark unblemished at 3-0 with the win. Bethany Lutheran fell to 4-6 and 2-2 in the league.
Superior started the day with a 3-0 lead through doubles. Brady Anderson and
Gavin Mangan (Henderson, Nev./Basic Academy) swept Noah Gernander and David Lee, 8-0, for a 1-0 lead in the match.
Josiah Borst (Becker, Minn./Becker) and
Leonardo Paredes (Uberlandia, Brazil/Colegio Sao Paschoall) then beat Laine Larson and Dalton Werckman, 8-2.
Will Sherman (Baton Rouge, La./St. Michael) and
Harry Simpson (Derby, England/Derby Moor Academy) closed doubles toppingCarter Dahl and Nico Martinez Biali, 8-5.
Two singles matches went to third-set tiebreakers with Borst prevailing in the No. 1 spot against Larson, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 10-7. Borst's win made it 5-1 in favor of UWS.
Simpson and Anderson picked up singles wins without giving up a game to either Martinez Biali or Lee on courts four and six, respectively.
Other victories came from Sherman over Dahl, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and
Petar Bulatovic (Podgorica, Montenegro/Lee Academy) at No. 5 over Noah Gernander, 6-1, 6-1.
Superior hosts St. Scholastica Wednesday, April 17 at 4 p.m., at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse.
