SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior goalkeeper Morgan Philliber (Apple Valley, Minn./Edina) made 11 saves but Concordia (Minn.) was too much for the UW-Superior women's soccer team in a 3-0 defeat Sunday at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
 
The Cobbers scored just 1:28 into the match and didn't look back, getting goals from three different sources to improve to 6-2 on the season. Philliber made seven saves in the first half to keep her team close before Concordia scored two times in less than 10 minutes midway through the second half for the final margin.
 
Grace Lawlor gave the Cobbers the lead in the second minute, burying a left-footed shot into the left corner of the net off of a cross. 
 
Kalli Baarstad made it 2-0 in the 57th minute with an unassisted tally, and Klara Beinhorn added insurance in the 66th. Beinhorn took a feed from Lauren Tschider and beat Philliber with a right-footed strike from outside the box on the play.
 
UWS (1-3-2) was never able to gain offensive traction and mustered only two shots on goal on the day – both from freshman defender Hailey Miller (Hayward, Wis./Hayward). The Yellowjackets were outshot, 24-2, and did not take a corner kick. The Cobbers had seven.
 
Alexis Jemtrud and Erin Larsen split time in the Concordia nets. Jemtrud played the first 78 minutes, making two saves for the shutout.
 
Superior travels to River Falls to take on the Falcons Monday at 4 p.m., in the makeup of a postponement from Sept. 4.
