SUPERIOR, Wis. – Senior
James Bruce (Gladstone, Mich./Gladstone) and sophomore
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) each scored hat tricks as the UW-Superior men's soccer team opened Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play with a resounding 12-1 win over Northland at NBC Spartan Sports Complex Sunday.
Bruce added two assists for eight points on the day for UWS (5-2-2, 1-0-0 UMAC).

Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy),
Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskjold),
Jake Myran (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Gutavo Barbieri, junior
Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and sophomore
Abel Vaudo (Sete, France/Armstrong) also scored for UWS. The Yellowjackets dominated Northland (1-7-0, 0-1-0) in every facet of the match. UWS never let up, outshooting the LumberJacks, 36-1, including 22-1 in shots on goal and had five corner kicks.
The 'Jackets scored eight times in the second half to put the match away.
Perry opened the scoring in the sixth minute, finishing a Doyea with the right foot past Northland goalkeeper Andre Ramirez (10 saves),
Bruce made it 2-0 in the 11th minute on a feed from
Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) before Nothland's Yabkal Demelash converted a free kick just outside the penalty area to make it 3-1 17 minutes into the contest.
Ten minutes later,
Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) pushed it to 4-1 lead with a strike from 30 yards that beat Ramirez. Perry tallied his second in the 29th minute on a free kick.
Bruce opened the second-half scoring in the 52nd minute as he took a feed from Perry and deposited it in the back of the net. Watson made it 6-1 on his sixth goal of the year from Bruce in the 55th.
Bruce finished off his hat trick with a bicycle-kick goal on the 66th.
Pontus Tavemark (Taeby, Sweden/Taeby Enskilden Gymnasium) lofted the ball from Bruce, who directed into the corner on the net to make it 7-1. Doyea's goal seconds later spelled the end of the day for Ramirez in the LumberJacks' net. He was replaced by Garren Aberth, who didn't fare much better. Aberth surrendered allowed four goals, making zero saves in 25 minutes.
Perry completed his hat trick in the 69th with a Bruce assist. The 'Jackets hit double digits with a Myran's goal, a penalty kick.
Payton Anderson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing) saw his first action of the season, playing the second half for UWS in relief of
Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan).
UWS is back in action at St. Scholastica Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
