ST. PAUL, Minn. – Senior
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double, but Northwestern beat the UW-Superior women's basketball team for the first time in 15 games, 81-66, on Wednesday at the Ericksen Center.
The Eagles shot 50 percent or better from the field for each of the first three quarters while limiting the Yellowjackets to just 37.5 percent for the game to earn their first victory in the series since Dec. 8, 2010, an 81-80 triumph at home.
Northwestern improved 10-7 overall and 6-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference win the win while putting four starters in double figures. Brooklyn DeKam led all players with 23 points on 7-for-10 shooting, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range. Reinertsen collected the sixth double-double of her season as UWS fell to 10-7 and 6-2 in the league, dropping multiple UMAC games for the first time in its five-year tenure in the conference.

Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) scored 11 points, adding four assists and three steals. Sophomore
Mikayla Koivisto (Floodwood, Minn./Floodwood) chipped in with her best game as a Yellowjacket, a career-high 10 on 5-of-8 from the floor.
Northwestern held a 21-20 lead after the first quarter and used a 27-point second quarter to pull away. The Eagles missed just seven of their 16 attempts in the frame battling back from a 26-21 deficit when Reinertsen hit a layup two minutes into the period. Tied at 30 with four-and-a-half minutes remaining in the half, Northwestern enjoyed a 15-4 spurt to take an 11-pont lead at 45-34 on a pair of DeKam free throws a minute before the break. DeKam hit a 3-pointer inside of the final minute to give her team a 48-37 edge going into the locker room.
The 'Jackets rallied in the third, whittling the deficit to just four points with 2:53 left in the quarter.
Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) made it 55-51 with a layup on the break, assisted by
Mady Sanders (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) at that point, but the was as close as Superior got.
UNW soon had its double-digit lead back when Courtney Schmidt stripped
Destiny Haldeman (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie) of the ball and Megan Rogers knocked down a 3-pointer for a 64-54 lead with 44 seconds left in the quarter. Schmidt later hit a free throw as the Eagles to an 11-point edge into the final 10 minutes.
A Haldeman bucket with two minutes gone in the fourth got the 'Jacket to within 67-58, but the Eagles blew it open from there, cruising to the win.
UNW got 22 points from Kelsea Lund and another 18 from Miranda Crenshaw, while Rio Landers had 10 points and 11 boards. The Eagles held a 40-32 advantage on the glass.
The 'Jackets return home to host Crown Saturday. Tip-off at Mertz Mortorelli Gym is slated for 5:30 p.m.
