SUPERIOR, Wis. – The UW-Superior women's basketball team placed four players in double figures in a 101-60 victory over Northland Wednesday at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
Senior
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while classmates
Emily Carpenter (St. Peter, Minn./St. Peter) and
Marissa Ruiz (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) added 17 and 11 points respectively. The Yellowjackets reached the 100-point mark for the first time since beating North Central, 101-64, at home Feb. 17, 2018.
Freshman reserve guard
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) chipped in with a career-high 16 points with five assists and two steals to pace the UWS bench corps, which scored a season-high 42.
As a team, the 'Jackets (12-6, 8-2 UMAC) shot a season-best 56.8 percent from the field, making 42-of-74 shots. The outcome was never in doubt as the hosts put on an impressive offensive showing, scoring at least 23 points in each quarter. Superior drained 7-of-13 from 3-point range and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line, burying the LumberJills.
Eleven players scored for Superior on the night which turned Northland over 21 times and controlled the paint, collecting 58 points on the inside.
The 'Jackets led, 28-13, after the first quarter, 52-29, at halftime and 75-50 after three.
Freshmen
Mady Sanders (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) (eight) and
Paris Kallevig (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake) (six points) each notched career-high scoring games coming off the bench.
Reinertsen collected her seventh double-double of season.
Sarah Dunbar led Northland (4-13, 2-8) with 11 points in 22 minutes off the bench.
Superior travels to Minnesota Morris Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
