ASHLAND, Wis. - When the Yellowjacket women's hockey team needs offense, it typically looks to No. 7.
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) is one of the most decorated players in the history of women's hockey at UW-Superior. Martinson, who is enjoying the best year of her career, will finish her career in Superior as the No. 2 goal scorer in program history.
Friday night, it was business as usual for the Yellowjackets and Martinson, who scored the first three goals of the game to lead the Yellowjackets to a 5-1 win over Northland College at the Bay Area Civic Center in Ashland.
The Yellowjackets (16-7-1, 6-5-0 WIAC) picked up two points in the WIAC standings, but they went into the weekend locked in as the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference tournament. With Friday's results, the Yellowjackets will be going to UW-River Falls for a two-game series in the WIAC semifinals next weekend.

It stayed that way until late in the second period when Northland drew even, with Jess Jerome finding the back of the net at 16:21 of the period.
The tie game didn't last long, however, and again it was Martinson getting the job done. With just 20 seconds to play in the period she scored her second of the game on assists from Shelton and
Jenna Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn./Roseau) to make it a 2-1 game.
It was all Yellowjackets in the third period, as they scored three times in a span of 4:26 to pull away. Martinson completed the hat trick at 8:10 of the third period, converting assists from Shelton and
Tessa Jorde (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) to make it 3-1.
