SUPERIOR, Wis. – Eighth-ranked UW-River Falls scored a pair of power-play goals on its way to a 3-0 win over the UW-Superior women's hockey team at Wessman Arena Saturday.
The win for the Falcons (18-4-1, 8-2-0 WIAC) secured the three-game season series, avenging a 2-1 loss on Jan. 25 to the Yellowjackets, also in Superior.
Erica Schramel opened the scoring for UWRF at 6:19 with an extra skater. With
Myka Sutherland (Champlin, Minn./Home School) off for tripping at 5:12, Bella Wagner found Schramel for the goal.
The Falcons doubled the lead on a Callie Hoff goal from Hailey Herdine at 8:23 of the second period. Just 19 seconds later, Alyson Niebur added an insurance goal from Madi Nolan to close the scoring.
UWS senior goaltender
Catherine Johnson (Lakeville, Minn./St. Paul Academy) made 36 saves. Sami Miller picked up the shutout for the Falcons, stopping 24 Superior shots.
UWS went 0-for-2 on the power play while UWRF was 2-for-5.

Amanda Sergent (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) and senior
Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) paced the UWS offense with four shots apiece. Senior
Kaleigh Martinson (Dayton, Minn./Champlin Park) and sophomore
C.C. Hayes (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances) each fired three.
The 'Jackets (13-6-1, 3-5-0 WIAC) return to action next Friday and Saturday in a road series at UW-Stevens Point at 7 and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
