SUPERIOR, Wis. - Mark your calendars, as UW-Superior will be holding its annual Superior Day of Giving Tuesday, June 2. As has always been the case in the past, Yellowjacket Athletics will be actively taking part, but things are going to look a little bit different in 2020.
"In past years we have always been active during the Day of Giving, leaning heavily on a number of different social media campaigns," said athletics director
Nick Bursik. "We decided this year we would still be active on social media, but we would also try to come up with something different that we've never tried before, all the while being more intentional of the needs of each individual program."
Enter the Yellowjacket Athletics Giving Day Telethon.
Beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, Yellowjacket Athletics will be live online courtesy of the iFan Sports Network, the departments official online video streaming partner. For five hours viewers will hear from coaches and athletes talking about the all the good that comes from the annual donations to the Champions Club, as well as what the needs are for the coming year. There will also be videos, highlights from the 2019-20 season, and other conversations.
Jon Garver, the voice of Yellowjacket hockey on iFan and 91.3 KUWS and Don Leighton, the voice of Yellowjacket basketball on iFan will serve as the telethon's hosts.
"Doing a telethon live during the Day of Giving is definitely out of the box for us, but it is another way for us to drive home how important the donations that come in are for our programs and student-athletes," Bursik said. "We're so grateful to have a partner like iFan that is going to be able to help us put together something that is first class and will help us hopefully generate more in donations than we've ever done before."
All pertinent telethon information is available on the event's web site, including the schedule of guests, links to donate to the Champions Club, and all of the different needs Yellowjacket teams are raising funds for.
"We encourage all of our alumni, families, and friends to visit the web site and see the impact they can make by donating to our Champions Club as part of the Day of Giving," Bursik said. "The student-athlete experience is one of, if not the biggest keys to the success of our department, and everything we are doing, and everything we are raising funds for, is directed at enhancing that experience."
