NEW ULM, Minn. – Senior forward
Protus Babaya (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) scored the first three goals of the match as the UW-Superior men's soccer team cruised to 7-0 victory over Martin Luther at MLC Soccer Field on Friday.
Babaya collected his second hat trick of the season – and the Yellowjackets' third as a team – scoring in the fifth, ninth and 25th minutes. Seniors
Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) and
Blake Perry (Anoka, Minn./Anoka) added tallies in the 56th and 64th minutes, respectively, while sophomore
Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) scored in the 83rd. Freshman
Drake Schramm (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) registered his first collegiate goal in the 85th minute for the final margin.
UWS dominated throughout, outshooting Martin Luther, 27-5 overall, and 15-2 in shots on target while seeing 55 percent of possession.
With the win, the 'Jackets move to 8-6-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the UMAC. The Knights are now 2-10-0 and 1-8-0.
Freshman goalkeeper
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) started and made two saves for Superior. He improved to 8-4-0, playing 55:29 before giving way to senior
Payton Anderson (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing). MLC's Michael Friesenegger fell to 1-6-0 with the loss, making eight saves.
The Yellowjackets travel to Bethany Lutheran Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
