DULUTH, Minn. – St. Scholastica used a 19-7 run over the final six-plus minutes to hold off the UW-Superior men's basketball team for a 69-60 victory at Reif Gym on Wednesday.

The Yellowjackets erased a 32-28 halftime deficit, leading 53-50 on a three-point play from junior Josef Fahrenholtz (Chatfield, Minn./Chatfield) with 6:11 remaining, before the Saints ran off eight consecutive points to regain the lead. Jack Silgen put CSS up, 58-53, with 3:19 to play with a layup. Quinn Fischer fouled Fahrenholtz on the next trip with Fahrenholtz knocking both down from the line to pull UWS back to within three.

Fischer, though, hit 3-pointers 1:15 apart – both assisted by Nick Carlson – for a 64-55 advantage with 47 seconds on the clock to seal the victory.

Sophomore J'Vaun Walker (Rosharon, Texas/Manvel) posted his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to pace the UWS (1-3), which saw its two-game winning streak against CSS halted in the loss. Junior Eli Vogel (Appleton, Wis./Appleton West) also landed in double figures for Superior, adding 14 points of his own.

Vogel knotted the game at 11-11 with a 3-pointer in transition over seven minutes in and classmate Enrique Sanchez (Madrid, Spain/IES María Guerrero) gave the 'Jackets the lead with a bucket at the 10:32 mark. Vogel grabbed his own miss and was fouled midway through the half. He drained both free throws to extend its edge to 15-11. Superior then carried the lead until 4:15 remained in the half as Noah Winesett hit a 3 to tie the game, 22-22.

Fischer gave CSS a 30-28 lead with 31 seconds left in the half with another of his four 3-pointers on the night.

There were two lead changes and four ties in the second half prior to Saints taking the lead for good down the stretch.

St. Scholastica shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field compared to 36.4 (24-for-66) for UWS. Fischer scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Saints while Silgen had 10 points and 11 boards. CSS held a 45-41 edge on the glass.

Next up, the Yellowjackets travel to face Concordia (Minn.) Saturday. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
