MENOMONIE, Wis. – UW-Stout scored two second-half goals to defeat the UW-Superior women's soccer team, 2-0, at Nelson Field on Wednesday in non-conference action.
The Blue Devils' Remy Soulak scored seven minutes into the second half and Liv Winkler added an insurance tally in the 78th minute as Stout remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 5-0-1.
The Yellowjackets played strong defense throughout, keeping the high-powered Stout offense off the scoreboard until the 52nd minute. Soulak took a feed from Marissa Steele in the box and beat UWS goalkeeper
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) high into the right corner for her second goal of the season.
Winkler doubled the lead with a shot from the six-yard box low on the left. Carly Kauffman and Steele assisted on Winkler's third of the year.
Stout carried the play most of the night, holding 64 percent possession. The Blue Devils outshot Superior (2-3-0), 24-3, including 14-1 in shots on target. Lang (1-2-0) turned aside 12 shots on the night, making seven saves in the first half. Stout also held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Haley Volkaty moved to 3-0-1 on the season in the Stout net with the win. She made a save on an
Allison Alessi (Shakopee, Minn./Prior Lake) shot just after the Soulak goal in the 53rd minute.
Next up, Superior opens UMAC play Saturday at Northland. Kickoff at Ponzio Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m.
