SUPERIOR, Wis. – Junior guard
Kaelyn Christian (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville Senior) scored a career-high 25 points on 7-for-10 shooting from 3-point range, but the UW-Superior women's basketball team squandered a halftime lead to fall, 67-58, to Minnesota Morris in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on Saturday.

 The Yellowjackets held a 35-27 advantage at the break only to have the Cougars climb back into the game late. Minnesota Morris (5-8, 3-1 UMAC) outscored Superior, 40-23, in the second half. UMM received 20 points and seven rebounds from Jay Kwateh and another 14 points and six rebounds from Malory Anderson. Haley Wollschager rounded out the three Cougars in double figures with 10 points, also adding seven assists.

UWS (3-10, 2-2) committed a season-high 31 turnovers, including 16 in the second half, to open the door for the visitors. Superior led 16-13 after the first quarter and lengthened the advantage to eight at the half despite seeing Minnesota Morris hit buzzer beaters at the end of both periods.

The Cougars took their first lead since 2-0 in with just over three minutes remaining in the third quarter when Grace Olson converted a layup that made it 40-39. Christian responded with a 3-pointer off of an
Allie Zimmer (Waconia, Minn./Waconia) offensive rebound as the 'Jackets retook the lead on the next possession, and the game went back and fourth until Maddie Smart of Morris hit a jumper in the paint with 24 seconds left in the quarter for a 46-44 UMM lead heading into the final 10 minutes.

Morris led by as many as eight points before Christian singlehandedly tied the game at 56-56, scoring eight consecutive points on a pair of treys an a jumper with 3:25 to play. Minnesota Morris, though, closed the game with an 11-2 run to cement the victory.

Freshman
Allison Luoma (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to lead a strong Yellowjackets' effort on the glass. UWS out rebounded the Cougars, 41-24, on the day.Â

Mady Sanders (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) cobbled together another solid all-around outing with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior
Brianna O'Donnell (Richfield, Minn./Richfield) tallied eight points and five rebounds.

The Yellowjackets are scheduled to return to action Friday at Northwestern at 5:30 p.m.
