SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The UW-Superior volleyball team continued its winning ways with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of Crown in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on Saturday.

The Yellowjackets sneaked above .500 for the first time this season at 9-8 overall and kept an unblemished 5-0 mark in conference play with the win, their sixth in the last eight matches.

UWS hit at least .300 from the floor in all three sets, finishing the day with a season-high .326 attack percentage with 45 kills and 14 errors in 95 swings. Superior recorded 16 kills in each of the second and third sets and was at its best in the second, registering a .355 hitting efficiency. The 'Jackets also limited Crown (2-13, 0-5 UMAC) to -.036 with only 14 kills and 17 errors in 83 total attacks.

All 18 Yellowjackets on the roster saw match action and nine recorded at least one kill. Sophomore Maiana Stark (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) led three players with double digits, putting down 11, while hitting .588. Seniors Alexie Pryd (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove Senior) and Cassy Teff (Foley, Minn./Foley) added 10 kills apiece and classmate Kaylin Plautz (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) contributed five. Sophomore Rilie Kupka (Eagan, Minn./Burnsville Senior) had four kills.

Sophomore Jenna Anderson (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) paced the defensive effort with 11 digs and senior Hailey Atwood (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake) had three of the team's five service aces. Freshman Colleen Claude (Centuria, Wis./Homeschool) had 13 assists while sophomore Renay Rieder (Rice Lake, Wis./Rice Lake) and freshman Lizzy Schmidt (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot Union) each tallied seven.

Superior never trailed in the first set, bolting to an 8-2 advantage, which later grew to 19-5 with the help of a 7-0 run that was highlighted by two kills apiece from Stark and Plautz. UWS scored four of the last five points, winning it with a Schmidt ace.

Tied, 9-9, in the second set, Stark tallied three kills and freshman Ella Kapus (Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) an ace to give UWS a 13-9 edge. The Polars cut the deficit to 16-14, but the 'Jackets took a two-set lead in the match on a pair of kills by Kupka and one each from Stark and Pryd.

UWS closed out the match with a pair of prolonged runs in the third for the sweep. Superior engineered a 7-1 stretch for a 17-12 lead. Crown stemmed the tide for a short time, winning the next three points, before Superior ran off the final eight to seal the victory.

Hailey Klein led Crown with five kills while Gracie Vanbebber had eight assists and Emma Holey eight digs.

The Yellowjackets are back in action at North Central on Friday at 7 p.m.
