ASHLAND, Wis. -- Sophomore
Mya Holmquist (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo) broke a scoreless tie in the 49th minute for the UW-Superior women's soccer team at Northland on Tuesday, but the LumberJills equalized with just 2:20 to play for a 1-1 draw in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action at Ponzio Stadium.
Holmquist scored her team-best-tying eighth goal of the season from classmates
Emma Fornengo (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and
Ava Giswold (Duluth, Minn./Proctor) with 48:26 on the clock to give the Yellowjackets a 1-0 lead and UWS nearly saw the match out. Northland's Isabelle McCurry scored her first goal of the season on an assist from Liberty Dickerson, though, and that's how the match finished.
The draw ended a streak of five consecutive victories in the all-time series for UWS, which dropped its first points in the league this season.
The Yellowjackets (7-3-3, 7-0-1) outshot Northland (2-7-3, 1-4-3) 15-4 overall and 6-4 in shots on target. Sophomore
Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and freshman
Quinn Clark (Duluth Minn./Duluth East) split time in the UWS net with Clark (1-1-2) playing the second half, making three saves and earning the decision.
Elysabeth Lough (2-7-3) made five saves for the LumberJills.
UWS returns to action Friday at 7 p.m., hosting Martin Luther at NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
