SUPERIOR, Wis. -- Sophomores
Drake Schramm (Cloquet, Minn./Esko) and
Josh Bellamy (High Wycombe, England/FAB Football Academy) scored two goals apiece and freshman
Freddy Watson (Wendover, England/Berkshire College of Agriculture) added three assists as the UW-Superior men's soccer team defeated Martin Luther 6-1 at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Friday.
The Yellowjackets scored three times in each half with seven players tallying points, to move to 9-2-2 overall and 7-0-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
UWS opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Schramm beat Martin Luther goalkeeper Adam Rosenbaum high to the left for his first goal of the year. Watson found Schramm with a pass from the near side into the penalty area.
Bellamy's fifth goal of the year doubled the lead in the 22nd as his long, sinking shot from the far side beat Rosenbaum after a Watson pass.
Freshman
Joel Thomas (Cardiff, Wales/Islwyn) scored his first collegiate goal in the 39th minute on a cross from the far side from freshman
Isaac Becket (Surrey, England/The Sixth Form College Farnborough), making it 3-0.
Schramm added his second of the match, just 16 seconds into the second half, for a 4-0 advantage. Sophomore
Aaron Shartin-Folkert (Hudson, Wis./Somerset) and junior
Phillip Eriksen (Skjetten, Norway/Lorenskog) assisted on that goal. Bellamy and Watson linked up again in with 53:11 on the clock for a 5-0 edge before Johannes Bourman got the Knights on the scoreboard just over 30 seconds after that.
Junior
Dan Cundy (Cambridge, England/Long Road Sixth Form College) scored in the 73rd minute from freshman
Jake Kidd (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) and junior
Evan Ridd (Windsor, Wis./DeForest Area) for the five-goal win.
UWS outshot Martin Luther 43-5 in the match (16-4 shots on target). Superior had 15 corner kicks on the day.
Sophomore
Alex Paredes (Mequon, Wis./Homestead) and freshman
Patrick Sessions (Brighton, England/Brighton, Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College) split time in the UWS net with each playing a half. Paredes made one save with Sessions stopping two shots. Paredes earned the victory, improving to 9-1-2 on the year. Rosenbaum made 10 saves falling to 1-12-1.
Superior hosts Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 2 p.m., in a matchup between the top two teams in the in the UMAC.
