Yellowjackets Play Scoreless Draw with St. Scholastica

Story Links

SUPERIOR, Wis. – Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Lang (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) made a season-high 10 saves for her fifth clean sheet of the season as the UW-Superior women's soccer team and St. Scholastica played to a scoreless draw in non-conference action at NBC Spartan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Lang, the reigning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, stopped six St. Scholastica attempts on goal in the second half to help preserve the tie in the match between the bridge rivals and former conference mates.

The result gives UWS its third scoreless draw of the season and improves Superior to 9-3-4 overall. The Yellowjackets also posted scoreless ties at home in consecutive matches against Hamline on Sept. 4 and UW-Stout on Sept. 6. The tie is also the first versus the Saints in 21 all-time meetings dating to 1993.

The Yellowjackets held possession for more than half the match, but endured a 15-7 deficit in total shots and 10-2 disparity in shots on target. St. Scholastica (2-8-5) also held a 2-0 edge in corner kicks.

Both UWS shots on goal came from freshman Kamyn Hill in the 41st and 42nd minutes, respectively, while Tenley Voth paced the Saints' attack with four on target in the 18th, 30th, 69th and 77th minutes.

Lang moved to 8-2-2 on the year while CSS goalie Gracie Meagher is now 2-3-4.

The Yellowjackets jump back into UMAC play Friday at North Central in a 3:30 p.m., kickoff.
